Battling with a Culprit of Forgetfulness "Alzheimer's Disease"

We often joke about losing keys or even a remote control and finding them inside the freezer or in the most unlikely places. Sometimes, we often forget simple words or substitute unusual words that left the person we are talking to baffled or confused. Our forgetfulness is becoming a nuisance to our family and friends.

If we often experience these little incidents, maybe it's time we need to see a doctor. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Seeing a physician is a good way to start.

Alzheimer's disease is a progressive brain disorder that gradually destroys a person's memory and ability to learn, reason, make judgments, communicate and carry out daily activities. as the disease progresses, individuals may also experience changes in personality and behavior, such as anxiety, suspiciousness or agitation, as well as delusions or hallucinations.

Because many people do not recognize the seriousness of Alzheimer's disease, those who have a member of the family afflicted with Alzheimer's prefer to conceal them. As a result the patient simply endures the disease not knowing there are many out there like him. Unknown to them, those who suffer from Alzheimer's can be helped if the disease is quickly identified. Though there is no known cure for the disease, there are new ways to manage the symptoms, new medications and ways to keep the patients' mind and body active and maintain quality of life.

The Alzheimer's Association(AA), the world leader in Alzheimer's research and support, provides a broad range of programs and services for people with the disease, families, caregivers and residential care professionals and professional health providers.

Rekindling the Fire

Creativity is the name of the game.

Marriage can really take it's toll on a once-hot relationship. especially when the couple gets caught up in the relentless demands of work and family. If you think your sex life needs a little spark, re-inject intimacy with these creative tricks.

Set the mood..
  1. Call your man at work just before he leaves the office, in your sexiest voice, tell him how much you'd like for him to come home early tonight.
  2. Insert a note in his lunch bag that says you can't wait to do some hanky-panky with him later. hide a can of whipped cream in the lunch bag.
  3. When your kids are at a sleepover with friends, leave a trail of petals or intimate apparel on the floor leading to your bedroom. he'll get the idea.
Play mind games with hubby all day. tease him that he will get a surprise gift from you if he is "well behaved" all day.

...and the ambiance
  1. Change all the bed sheets, pillowcases and blankets to encourage a naughty tumble. for added measure, play light instrumental music.
  2. Enhance the romantic mood with scented candles or oils. A simple oil burner costs less but offer a sensuous scents such as lavender, jasmine or sage.
  3. If making love at home is too routine, book a weekend getaway for two. A hotel room or a resort cottage or anywhere that doesn't resemble your bedroom will do.

First aid for your Child's Asthma Attack

Know what to do during an asthma attack and help save your child's life.

Your child's asthma attack can develop from a few minutes to a few days. The first and crucial step is recognizing an asthma attack. During an asthma attack, young children may appear restless and have problems eating due to shortness of breath. They may also have severe coughing and vomiting.

If your child is short of breath, wheeze, coughs, and complains of chest tightness, he is having a mild asthma attack. If he is wheezing loudly, complains of difficulty in breathing, and can only speak in short sentences, he is suffering a moderate asthma attack.

Once you recognize an asthma attack, immediately give your child his reliever asthma medications.

During an asthma attack, your child's coughing, wheezing or breathlessness can quickly worse. Signs of a severe asthma attack include:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Rapid breathing
  • Severe chest tightness
  • Inability to speak more than one or two words per breath
  • distress
  • Little or no improvement after using a reliever medications
  • "Sucking in" throat and ribs
  • Blue color around the lips
If your child has any signs of a sever asthma attack, immediately give him his asthma medications and then take him to the nearest hospital

10 Signs That You're Dating a Commitment-Ready Guy

Are you ready for a relationship that is going to lead somewhere without you being led on?

It's time to start weeding out the commitment phobics and put your time and effort into men that are looking for the kind of relationship you want -- one that has a future. If you're interested in getting married, ignore these at your own risk. Here's what to look for:

1. His friends are married

If you are interested in a guy, check out his friends' left hands to see if they have wedding rings on.
"Research has show that if his friends are already married, he's more likely to get married."
Research has show that if his friends are already married, he's more likely to get married. If all of his friends are still single and in the "party-with-the-boys" phase, that's a bad sign.

2. He's financially secure

Studies show that men who own a home are more marriage-ready. A man who is generally financially stable, and has his ducks in a row, feels marriage is a practical next step for him.

3. He pursues you

The guy who is commitment-ready is going to initiate doing things with you. If you're emailing him and he takes days to email you back, if you have to text him to find out where he is, if you are always calling him, you're chasing a man who's probably not marriage-material.

4. He's willing to wait

Yes, research is telling us what we already know: If a guy gets to know you before getting intimate, he is more likely to commit.

5. He watches DVDs with you when you're sick

Taking care of you when you're sick shows that this guy isn't just in it for the fun and sex. If he wants to be with you in bad times, it's a sign he's in it for the long haul.

6. He gets to know your friends and family

A guy who is thinking long-term wants to truly get to know you. Seeing you interact with your family and friends helps him learn where you come from and more about who you are. The flip side of it is that he will also want you to get to know him! He'll want to see if you fit in with his family and friends. A guy who keeps you separate from the important people in his life is just playing around.

7. He says, "we" instead of "me"

When he switches from "me" to "we", that's a sign he's committing to you at a deeper level. If your guy is all, "I", "me", and "my" instead of "we" and "us" in conversations after you've been dating a while, his mindset is still in single guy mode.

8. He's not afraid of compromise

"A commitment-ready guy is going to ask your opinion, consult you about decisions he needs to make, and has the ability to meet you half-way."
A commitment-ready guy is going to ask your opinion, consult you about decisions he needs to make, and has the ability to meet you half-way. A bull-headed guy who needs everything his way or it's the highway, isn't ready for the compromise that's naturally part of a mature relationship.

9. He doesn't need excuses

Commitment-phobic guys always have an excuse about why they can't be with you on Saturday night, why they didn't call, and why they aren't ready for a relationship right now. A commitment-ready guy doesn't need excuses, he just needs you.

10. He likes being in a long-term relationship

Some men like being in a monogamous relationship and some don't. The sooner you realize and accept this the better. If he complains all the time about needing space, treats you like a giant burden instead of a gift, and keeps talking about taking things slow, he's telling you he's not ready for a commitment. On the other hand, if he's done with the party scene, enjoys your "couple time" together, and has a strong sense of family, you've found a commitment-ready guy.

Eat Smart. Eat Fruit

Fruit is known to be humankind's natural diet. It is the diet of Leonardo da Vince (according to his notebooks), mathematicians Einstein and Pythagoras. It has been advocated by everyone from philosophers such as Plato and Nietzsche, to political leaders such as Benjamin, Franklin and Ghandhi to modern pop icons such as Paul McCartney and Bob Marley. The once-upon-a-time fruitarian Steve Jobs used a fruit to name his computer company.

Fruit is the natural true anti-depressant

Judith Wurtman, Ph.D., research scientist at the Massachusets Institute of Technology, finds that eating fruits can help you feel anxiety-free and relaxed. The amino acid tryptophan, that may also be found in fruits, helps the brain produce serotonin. Low levels of serotonin are associated with insomnia, anxiety and depression. Pineapples are rich source of tryptophan, which may help increase serotonin levels an
d help increase serotonin levels and help improve one's sense of overall well-being. Fruits also contain thousands of antioxidants and phytochemicals that may help promote brain health. Many brain disorders incur oxidative damages according to observation done by Lester Packer, Ph.D., nutritional biochemist at the University of California at Berkeley. Therefore, antioxidants may be especially helpful to people already suffering brain damage, or may help prevent it. So packing your diet with fruits is totally essential. Let's all be smart and enjoy the fruits and the labor they do for our mind and body.

Take fruits 2x a day

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that a real fruit is good for you. But how much of this sweet stuff do you really need? Nutrition experts recommend at least 2 servings of real fruit or fruit juice everyday for a healthier life.

Let's break it down.. One solid serving would be half cup of canned fruit. If you want to drink it, 3/4 cup of 100% fruit juice is also equal to 1 serving. Whether you belong to the field of Einstein or McCartney, 2-a-day fruit servings will do the same wonders for you.

And those wonders include VITAMIN C that may help prevent common infections. PHYTOCHEMICALS that stimulate enzymes that fight carcinogens (cancer-causing agents). And FIBER that flushes wastes out of your digestive system faster. When you get rid of toxins everyday, you keep certain cancer's and heart disease at bay. A healthy body complements a healthy mind.

Seeking Happiness..

"We may love the wrong person and may cry for a wrong reason...but no matter how things go wrong, one thing is sure mistakes.. help us find the wrong person for a good reason."

I've been through a lot of ups and downs in journeying this kind of life. I finally realized that there was a reason why things don't happened the way we planned it or the way it should be. I may not choose whom a person or someone I may be destined to be with but destiny is the one making a way and giving me a hint. I just being blinded by the the idea of a perfect someone which i know, no one is perfect for sure.

It's like a stairways, in every step of our lives, there will always be a crossroads of trials. I should not be afraid to face it. If i wanna be happy, I should be open to changes in life that i have to encounter. I may not want it but i should accept it, either the hard way or the easy way. Whatever I have to choose I would make sure that it would make me happy not only for a moment but for a lifetime..

Hard to Lose Weight....Try Dieting Without Trying!

I have heard sad stories from people including me in pursuing a slim figure. They haven't try to read this piece yet.

Slimming down is such a hard task. With alluring chocolates, ice cream and other delectable fattening foods confronting and tempting us at every turn, having a model's figure seem impossible. What I don't even realize is that moving extra body fat need not to be agony. I can shed off those excess pounds by tweaking my lifestyle a bit. So forget about crash diets and check out these tips.

Diet without trying..

1. Eat Slowly. It takes 20 minutes for our body to recognize that we are already full. Chew carefully so you will feel sated even before you've finished your plate. This slow pace also allows us some breathing room to decide is you really want a second serving.

2. Use smaller plates. This way your plate will look overflowing despite the small serving you feel less deprived.

3. Substitute. If you can't say no to certain foods, just reach for less fattening ones. almost everything in the grocery should also come in sugar-free, fat-free, low-salt and high-fiber.

4. Eat at home. Minimize the number of times that you dine out. with restaurant food, you have no control over portion sizes.

5. Know your weakness. Identify your binging triggers, then plan how to cope with them. If passing a bakery tempts you to buy a chocolate muffin or two, take a different route when you go home.

Workout without trying...

1. Save gas- burn fat instead. If you commute, walk from the station to your destination instead of taking a cab. If you drive, park at least half kilometer away from the office building and walk the rest of the way.

2. Lift yourself. If you're working in a low-rise building, take the stairs instead of the elevator. It will burn excess fats, improve your cardiovascular system.

3. Don't workout. the usual gym routines can get boring. To stay motivated, choose an exercise you can enjoy and integrate into your lifestyle. It may be biking, dancing, jogging or even just a plain household chores.

Valuing Stone Age

Getting back to the basic with the tribute from best of nature's bounty..

Since the the old times, stones is said to be useful to relive body ailments. For centuries, the Chinese have used hot stones to soothe muscle pain; Japanese have been placing warm stones on the abdomen to aid digestion. It's only recently that Europe and the United States have been catching up, and hot stone therapy has become the fastest-growing wellness treatment in these regions.

Hot stone therapy can provide relief from several health problems, including muscle aches and strains, fibromyalgia or several tender points all over the body, back pain and insomnia. It also improves blood circulation and reduces tension, anxiety and depression.

When hot or warm stones are placed on the certain parts of the body, the heat penetrates into the muscles to remove pain and discomfort. Warm sensation provides almost immediate relaxation. It is also used along with long soothing massage, which harmonizes the body and promoting sense of balance and well-being.

Cold stones also use for treatment and also can minimize inflammation from muscular injury and sedate the nervous system, easing tension and tautness.

"Paintballs to Fire" OR nurses New ways of Adventure...

I'm an Operating room nurse at one of the hospital here in Iloilo City. Everyone know for a fact that being in a healthcare system, we've been confronted with a very exhausting and busy routine life. One of these is over stressed in facing challenging surgeries everyday.

I with my co-nurses and friends decided to go out together for a new adventure. Last July 13 when I was off from work we trailed to Adventure Park, its is located near by mountain areas of Barangay Aluguisok,Guimaras Island.I tag my brother along with us to be added on the team.

Paintball seems popular since 1980's. We decided to take risk once a year.. We have discover our movement , strategy and skill, action and adventure. There's a lot for you to know first before engaging in the said activity. There's a certain safety rules of the game to be followed and the game plan to be establish by teams before the game will start.

Safety rules:

1.Wear mask or head gear at all times
2.Do not drink and play
3.No blind firing
4.Allow surrenders
5.Do not shoot the opponent when 4 meters away instead use knife kill
6. Use safety plugs mode on loaded guns
7.use common sense

Equipments needed for each player are the mask or head gear, body support vest, hopper, air tanks and paintballs. Outdoor or woods clothing is highly recommended.

Team strategies are also given importance; First, Establish boundaries before the game begins. We have to make sure that we talk about the walk around the field and clearly indicate the boundaries to make sure the area is safe. The bases of the opposite teams are not in viewed with each other.

Secondly, Mark the Dead end. Is the area that is off the field where your men of your team or opponents go after when they are eliminated. Ideally it should be far enough off the field where the gears are located.

There should be a game objective or mission to accomplish to be made before the game is set on. We have to make sure that everyone knows the goal of the game weather it is capture the flag or ellimination game. Special rules are being broadcast to us by our game marshals.

Time limit is also being observe. Nobody wants to play the game forever with neither team is moving. Our terms should be both teams are divided in equal number of players. The start begins when two teams are both ready in their respective bases. When one team calls out that they are ready, the other team should respond when they are ready too as so, the marshal will call the game as "game on".

A player is hit if a paintball leaves a solid mark everywhere on the players body equipments. Splatter after occurs when a paintball does not break on a person by on nearby surface and the paint bounces into the player.

Paintball checks is done when a hit is made on the body parts. When a person was hit he or she will exit in the game and out of the field,if not hit on major body parts otherwise returned to previous position and resume the game when the marshal whistle to ready to fire.

Walking off the field is done when the player is hit and they must raise their guns over their head and shout that they are hit is called. Victory of the game is announced when the mission or objective of the game is completed. All players in the field should be notified at once. Do not removed the mask until the barrel plug for safety is being place in all loaded guns.

We enjoyed on our escapades in every competition and movement of out teammates.I have learn and value sportsmanship. Enhance my skills and setting better strategy or game plan. We also tried rappelling right after our game.

My Craving for Food and Chocolates

Would you believe that food and chocolates help me get through during my most saddest moments and rough times?

I'm a kind of person who is obsessive to eat a lot food and chocolates whenever I get depressesed. It's my own way of diverting my my emotions that I kept inside me so that it won't be projected to others and I will feel numb to the pain I'm about to deal with.

I'm not making it a habit but it makes me cope up and go with the idea the the burden that I'm crossing is a bit lightened for somehow. My favorite pass time with my favorite fries and ice cream or with my chocolates bars, Hershey's and Toblerone.

I know for a fact that I would be gaining weight if I have it a lot. But whenever I get
over with my emotions I would be the one to fix it.

Have your Heart Protected with Ensure

The heart is the center of activity in our body. Every part of our system depends on it. If your heart is healthy, your entire body benefits. But if it's not, then your whole body suffers. The heart is in charge of pumping life-giving blood to our entire body, providing nourishment and oxygen to all the cells in our tissues, organs, muscles and bones. The blood moves from the heart in the arteries, then into the tiny tubes called capillaries and finally into the veins that lead back to the heart. Although the heart is a powerful organ, it can also be damaged by disease and poor living habits like smoking, an unhealthy diet, lack of exercise and stress. All these may weaken our body and hamper our blood circulation. Ensure helps fight off the harmful effects of free radicals caused by these unhealthy habits. It's unique heart defense system creates a shield around our heart to help protect us from an attack.

Combined with proper diet and regular exercise, it helps ensure nothing interferes with the way our heart pumps blood and and nutrients to the parts of the body. It has low cholesterol that helps the artery walls free from plaque and cholesterol build-up which block the flow of the blood. Low sodium content which control high blood pressure, prevent swelling or edema and avoid fluid build-up. Low saturated fats that helps prevent the heart-blocking effects of bad cholesterol and accumulation of harmful fatty deposits in the arteries. Lastly, Rich in antioxidants that protects heart tissue cells from damage caused by free radicals that's why I strongly recommend Ensure. I see the effectiveness of it with my grandmother whom last year was diagnosed with Myocardial Infarction

Hangout Place of Mine (MO2)

Seems life is moving in a fast lane..

I was used to hangout for a party with my very best friend Ching at Smallville along with my co-workers and friends. I find MO2 as one of the bars which has exceptional ambiance that are willing to pamper my senses. I find it a hotter than any party spot here in Iloilo. It able to sooth my craving for Mexican gastronomic menus. I used to come with Ching along, chatting while having our dinner and listening to acoustic music the serenading each everyone's exhausted emotions.

Ching introduced me some of her friends which make my a circle of friends expand. I meet some of their staff and get to know them. I was really amazed by their unique styles of bartending and mesmerized to diverged drinks and cocktail mixing..just to name the few are; Martini, tequila, flaming Ferrair, Rhum, brandy, Gin Base, Vodka and Bourdini and Coctails for the ladies preference such as Cherry plunge and Margarita.

Unexpectedly my best friend Ching went to Saudi Arabia. I was left behind however i still hangout here to get away with the boringness and just to relieve my stress from work. I was entertained by just mere watching how the mixed drinks are being prepared.

229 dead in Philippines typhoon: official

LOILO, Philippines, June 22, 2008 (AFP) - At least 229 people are confirmed dead and at least six missing after Typhoon Fengshen ravaged the central and southern Philippines, Red Cross and civil defence officials said on Sunday.

The toll does not include those dead or missing from a ferry that sank in the central Philippines with about 747 people aboard. Four people have been confirmed dead and there are four survivors from that accident.

The rest are unaccounted for.

The central province of Iloilo has suffered the heaviest losses after being hit by the typhoon on Saturday, with 101 dead, Philippine Red Cross chairman Richard Gordon said.

Other fatalities were recorded in the neighbouring provinces of Romblon, Cotabato, Antique and Capiz, Gordon added.

The civil defence office recorded 26 fatalities in the southern island of Mindanao.

"This (toll) will definitely rise dramatically when we get the listings from the ship," he said, referring to the Princess of the Stars ferry that sank off Sibuyan island amid heavy seas on Saturday.

Floodwaters in Iloilo rose so swiftly that many residents were forced to take refuge on rooftops or in the branches of tall trees, said provincial administrator Manuel Mejorada.

The flooding in Iloilo eased Sunday, allowing vehicles to reach once-flooded areas, Mejorada said.

Over 35,500 families had to be evacuated from their homes due to the flooding and risk of landslides, the civil defence office said.

Electricity was knocked out in Iloilo and surrounding areas and officials do not expect power to be restored for about a week.

Telephone lines and cellphone towers were down in many areas.

Manila and surrounding areas were lashed by the typhoon in the early hours of Sunday, with power being knocked out in large parts of the city and many domestic and international flights cancelled.

There were no immediate reports of deaths or damage in the capital but the Education Department cancelled classes on all levels in Metro Manila and surrounding areas on Monday.

The typhoon has continued to move northwest, passing Metropolitan Manila and over the northern half of the main island of Luzon.

Typhoon Fengshen, packing maximum winds of 120 kilometres per hour (75 miles per hour) near the centre, is expected to move northwest at 15 kilometres per hour.
